My personal struggles finding self-worth in work
and learning to understand that it’s okay to not be “full every day”
I used to think having a great mindset was all about having the will power to always push through to achieve whatever you wanted even when it meant hurting yourself mentally
You see, coming up I used to be one of those people who would pride themselves as a lone wolf
But now I realize those were the first symptoms of the problem I had which is overcompensating.
Over the last two years I have evaluated how I work with people and my mental pillars of achievement and what I found is
My lone wolf workaholic structure was nothing more than a quest to feel “worthy”
It was just looking for and creating opportunity to prove myself
Which isn’t bad on its own, but it’s a toxic mindset when it comes from a place of lack and being rooted in not feeling good enough
How did I get here?
Well, growing up I didn’t think I was talented at anything, other kids to could sing, dance, or were good at sports
While
I wasn’t
This made me want to prove I could just be as good if not better, so I started to pick up skills
From building websites at 14 to content and copywriting at 16, and consulting at 17
I kept pushing myself to do more
Just to feel like more
Now I know not everyone here is like me but a lot of us have been pushing ourselves to either prove our worth to others or ourselves
But guess what?
You are already worthy, and you don’t need to keep living with a mindset that your worth comes from the things you do or acquire
I’m trying to unlearn these patterns and everyday I do, it frees me to build better work relationships with others
It makes my life easier as I’m now open to delegating tasks to people
I don’t feel as much guilt as I used to for taking days off work
Yes, I still have a long way to go but if you’re like me in one way or the other
I just want to say 3 things
Don’t let your sense of worth be defined by your input
Don’t let your sense of worth be defined by your results
Let your sense of worth come from the abundance that you are
When you work, work because you have a lot to give not because you have something to prove, it’s the same for when you live and love.
I just wanted to remind you that your self-worth shouldn’t lie in what you can do or have done, and it’s okay not to feel full everyday.
Peace and love my friend!
